Broken Spur Inn & Steakhouse near Capitol Reef National Park

For Capitol Reef lodging, stay at one of the closest properties to that famous scenic drive that leads through the park.

Near the West Entrance of Capitol Reef National Park, the Broken Spur Inn offers comfortable family-friendly lodging with a quirky cowboy theme. True to its name, you’ll find spurs, horseshoes and metal stars fashioned into decor, alongside rustic wood furnishings, quilted bed spreads and Western art in the hotel rooms.

Want to kick it up a notch? You’ll never forget staying in one of the Conestoga Wagons, replicas of the original wagons used by pioneers to cross the West. It’s Broken Spur’s version of cowboy glamping with comfy beds for up to five people and your own private bathroom nearby.

Just down the road, cruise Capitol Reef’s scenic drive to trailheads for hiking your choice of dry river beds cutting through slot canyons or challenging, rocky climbs to overlooks. Stop at the Gifford House in the national park for pies and ice cream from Broken Spur’s kitchen, but get there early because they sell out by noon. Later, watch the horizon at Sunset Point knowing that it’s just eight miles back to the hotel and dinner at the Broken Spur Steakhouse. The restaurant specializes in aged steaks but the fresh seafood and salads are equally scrumptious. We recommend that you finish your meal with the cobbler of the day topped with a scoop of ice cream.

Before you leave, pick up a memento at the well-stocked gift shop where you’ll find everything from polished rocks and jewelry to treats and road games for the trip home.
